I am very passionate about coaching and consulting with authors who are interested in independent publishing, so this is my primary service here at Author As Entrepreneur. The very name of the site refers to authors operating as entrepreneurs, and I strongly desire to help them function effectively in this capacity. This coaching and consulting service includes, but may not be limited to, the following key areas:
- Cover design (DIY vs. outsourcing) and includes discussion about front, spine and back of cover, paperback vs. hardcover jacket, use of template provided by the printer, bar code with ISBN placement, annotation, endorsements and/or author byline with headshot
- Manuscript editing and proofreading (essential for a professionally polished end product)
- Interior formatting and design (DIY vs. outsourcing) and includes discussion about use of a template vs. freestyle, choosing a book’s dimensions, font selection, layout with key elements to include and use of title/author, chapter and page number headers and footers
- Choosing a printer (POD vs. offset)
- Choosing a distributor (exclusive vs. nonexclusive agreements)
- eBook conversion (various formats, sales channels and use of ISBN for each format)
- Marketing and publicity (admittedly, not my strongest suit, but I do have some important things to say here)
Other Services I Offer
Quid pro quo book reviews (this means we swap books with each other and promise to write a review for each other’s book on the retail sites we specify)
Writing guest blog articles (if you are looking for and open to guest bloggers); the only compensation I request is the opportunity to include affiliate or sales links and link-backs to my site(s) within my article
Accepting guest blog articles for one of my blog sites (if you are interested in writing about topics related to the craft of writing, the ins and outs of publishing in either traditional or independent venues, etc.); the only compensation I offer is the opportunity for you to include affiliate or sales links and link-backs to your own site(s) within your article
Setting up a basic author’s website for first-time authors (it won’t be extensive, however; hence, the adjective, “basic”, and you will be expected to maintain it yourself once I’ve set it up; if you desire a storefront page for selling your books and other products, I will setup one for an extra fee because that requires more work, but I understand its importance)
I’m backing away from providing editorial services anymore because it is so tedious and time-consuming and I’d rather be doing one of these other things, but I will gladly refer you to someone else I can recommend
You may have noticed I haven’t included any prices with any of these services. That’s because I want to be flexible for those authors who are having to work within a very restricted budget. Although I can’t provide my services for free, I am willing to reduce my fees to accommodate those who truly can’t afford what the services are worth. Just reach out to me using the Contact page on this site and let the negotiations begin.
